Seems vital to keep chlorpyrifos for the foreseeable future. Therefore this initiative should be supported by all growers. Plum grower, Hertfordshire
Urgent need for change
A major new stewardship initiative, ‘Chlorpyrifos: Say NO to DRIFT’, has been launched by the three major UK approval holders for chlorpyrifos. It requires all users to adopt significant changes to the way in which the highly valued insecticide is applied to crops.
The aim of the new stewardship initiative is to achieve 100% uptake of low-drift nozzles and extended buffer zone from January 2012 onwards.
Chlorpyrifos users and the industry as a whole have significant roles to play in securing the future of the active ingredient by promoting and adopting the new stewardship guidelines which will prove industry support for the continued use of chlorpyrifos under challenging regulatory conditions. Without this support, it is unlikely that chlorpyrifos products can be retained in the UK market.
